This striking black and gilt metal console table brings a wonderful mix of classical detailing and contemporary style to your home. With its slender black legs, gleaming gilt metal framework, glass top and beautifully decorative Empire-style feet, it's a rather special piece of furniture.

The long, narrow design makes it particularly lovely in a hallway, behind a sofa or beneath a favourite mirror.  A console table that certainly knows how to make an entrance!

Look & Feel

The contrast between the dark metal legs and warm gilt detailing gives this console table a sophisticated, architectural look, while the decorative claw-style feet add a lovely nod to traditional French Empire furniture. The glass top keeps everything feeling light and airy, and the delicate metal cross-stretcher provides an extra flourish. Classical in its inspiration, but surprisingly easy to mix with modern interiors.

Style Ideas For You

Place it in a hallway beneath a large gilt or black-framed mirror, with a pair of decorative lamps or candlesticks. Place behind a sofa as a lovely way to introduce a little grandeur to a sitting room without taking up too much visual space.

It would work well in a dining room as a display table for silver champagne coolers, crystal glasses or a favourite collection of decorative objects.

In an entry way pair with an ornate overmantle mirror, pale panelled walls and a marble or herringbone floor.

In Detail

- Empire-style furniture takes its inspiration from early 19th-century French design, often featuring classical proportions, decorative metalwork and ornamental feet. This table gives those traditional details a lighter, more contemporary interpretation.

- Despite the classical line the slim black legs, glass top and open framework work beautifully in contemporary interiors. The gilt detailing adds character and warmth.

- The perfect table to display an ornate overmantle above, to create a more traditional look, a simple black mirror would also work to give a contemporary feel.

Very pleased with our outdoor lantern. We live in a house which was once the Globe Inn, and had a very similar lantern outside. It now looks like it did many years ago.
